Special Olympics Isle of Man was founded in 1985 to help people with intellectual disabilities reach their full potential through taking part in sport and achieving goals they never thought possible before.
Special Olympics athletes are the heart of our movement. Special Olympics Isle of Man offer 11 Olympic sports, there is something for everyone .Dignity, acceptance, and a chance to reach one’s potential – these are human rights worth promoting for everyone. Since 1985, Special Olympics Isle of Man has been bringing one message to the Manx community: people with intellectual disabilities can and will succeed if given the opportunity.
Coaches are a critical component of Special Olympics Isle of Mans work. A coach is a key figure in an athlete’s life, providing the sports skills and spirit that define a true athlete.
Coaches serve as role models and character builders, giving Special Olympics athletes awareness of their worth, ability, courage and capacity to grow and improve. Special Olympics coaches also have a direct impact on athletes’ lives by helping them acquire skills that can influence their abilities to obtain employment, succeed in school and achieve personal goals.
Special Olympics Isle of Man would not exist today — and could not have been created — without the time, energy, commitment and enthusiasm of individuals who choose to take a little time from busy schedules to make the world a better place. It's about transforming lives, including your own. It’s about a spirit of giving and teamwork. It's about making your community on the Isle of Man a more welcoming and accepting place.
